Bombs on Monte Carlo is a modern film operetta by Universum Film from 1931 , which premiered on August 31, 1931 in Berlin's Ufa-Palast am Zoo . The music is by Werner Richard Heymann .
action
Captain Craddock commands the cruiser Persimon , lying in the Mediterranean Sea , which sails under the flag of the Kingdom of Pontenero. Like his team, he has not received any pay for a long time because the kingdom is bankrupt. Therefore he refuses to take Queen Yola I on board for a Mediterranean cruise.
Instead he goes to Monte Carlo to confront the consul of Pontenero there. Yola is already there, incognito, who sacrifices her pearl necklace for lack of money, for which Craddock finally receives an amount of 100,000 francs .
In the disguise of a half-world lady , Yola persuades the captain to try his luck in the casino, where Craddock loses all money after initial wins. He blames the head of the casino and threatens his ship to be shot at if he doesn't get the money back.
Unrecognized, Yola follows the angry captain on his cruiser, who actually has the ship's artillery ready the next day. Panic breaks out in the city and people flee. Yola reveals herself to be queen on deck and forbids the fire. She wants to make Craddock her naval minister, and since he is unruly, she lets the first officer arrest him without further ado. But Craddock jumps overboard in order to reach a passing passenger ship. Yola doesn't give up and gives the order to follow with the cruiser. The outcome remains open, the film ends with sailors' songs.

criticism
“Lively comedy, which is still gaining momentum mainly from the Albers / Rühmann team, but also from the hits performed by the Comedian Harmonists; artistically not outstanding, but thanks to the fantastic studio setting and the smug-ironic narrative attitude appealing and entertaining. "
“Hans Albers as craddock is making a big difference. Albers works by himself, a director cannot spoil him yet. Provisionally. But those blurry, slimy, sliding, rocking manuscripts must have brought him down too. Albers, who would have to give people of this time: officers who have found themselves in other professions, mass proletarians, petty bourgeoisie who cannot find their way around, failed and ascending, people of our day, our fate, the uprooted and the established, workers and snobs. "
“The success is called Hans Albers, who puts another guy down again - so splendidly mixed with blood, heart, sex appeal, muscles and the snout - that you have to go with him whether you want to or not. As a counterpart to him, brilliantly chosen: Heinz Rühmann, of agile, bumbling, loyal humor, better than ever. "
