Constantine Cheet

Konstantin Tschet , real name Konstantin Cetverikov (Tschetwerikoff), Russian Константин Чет , (born June 24, 1902 in Moscow , † May 27, 1977 in Munich ) was a Russian cameraman . He received the surname Irmen-Tschet, under which he also worked for some years, through adoption .

Life

The theater director Stanislavsky was his great-uncle. In the early 1920s , Tschet came to Berlin and worked in photo chemistry. He then started working at Ufa as a camera assistant, especially at Günther Rittau .

From 1925 on, Tschet was the cameraman in many feature films , including in Metropolis, where he was responsible for the trick shots. Up until 1933 he was involved in numerous great public successes of the late Weimar Republic, such as Bombs on Monte Carlo (1931) and FP1 Doesn't Answer (1932).

Konstantin Irmen-Tschet did not hesitate to make himself available to the National Socialists for the propaganda film Hitlerjunge Quex after they came to power . He continued to receive orders for camera work in elaborate entertainment films from the National Socialist era such as comedies and revue films . Audience favorites like Lilian Harvey , Marika Rökk and Hans Albers were put into the picture by him. He was responsible for the camera in the first German color film Women Are Better Diplomats (1940), as well as in the even more prestigious Münchhausen production (1943).

After the war he was able to continue his career. In 1946 he got an engagement in Switzerland, from 1948 he again photographed feature films in Germany, where he was mostly able to work with previous directors. Between 1953 and 1954 he accompanied Hans Hass as a cameraman on his expedition to the Galapagos Islands. From 1957 to 1964 he was back in Switzerland, where he mainly worked behind the camera for films by the director Franz Schnyder . Most recently he worked again in Germany as chief cameraman for Insel-Film and limited himself to documentary and industrial films. His last film work was a commissioned production for Konrad Adenauer's 90th birthday .

Konstantin Tschet was married to the actress Brigitte Horney from November 2, 1940 to 1954 .
