Walter Tjaden (born August 9, 1906 in Oldenburg , Lower Saxony ; † November 4, 1985 in Starnberg , Bavaria ) was a German sound engineer and production manager for Austrian and German film.

Live and act

Tjaden had studied at the polytechnic in his native Oldenburg and in 1927 went to the research department of Siemens , where he was involved in the development of sound film equipment.

He then switched to film and became UFA's first sound engineer. Until the 1950s, Walter Tjaden remained the leading sound engineer in German-speaking cinema alongside Walter Rühland . Based in Vienna from 1936 , he already worked sporadically as a production manager and assistant director (for example, in 1937 with Peter im Schnee ).

From 1952 Tjaden worked briefly as broadcasting manager at Hamburg- based NWDR . Since 1954 he has concentrated entirely on the production management of the (mostly Austrian) cinema and produced, among other things, the late productions of Willi Forst . In the 1960s, Walter Tjaden temporarily turned away from the feature film and produced advertising films with his own company, before he started working regularly as a production manager again from 1968, now based in Munich . In these functions, he oversaw several productions by Rolf Thiele and two Simmel film adaptations .

In 1976 Walter Tjaden retired from the film business. His grave is on the Gertrudenfriedhof (Oldenburg) in Oldenburg .
