Augustin Johann Thomasberger

Augustin Johann Thomas Berger (* 1676 in Klein Mohrau ; † 5. December 1734 in Olomouc ) was in Moravia active sculptor and carver of Baroque .

Life

Augustin Johann Thomasberger probably settled in Olomouc shortly before 1704. In 1703 he became a master. He had three children from his first marriage. In 1715 he bought a house at Fronleichnamsgasse 4 from the sculptor Johann Hertzog. In a dispute between Thomasberger and the other Olomouc sculptors in 1719, he was accused of employing the sculptor's journeyman Tobias Schütz with a sham contract, who in fact had worked for Wenzel Render . This conflict ended the long-term friendship between Render and the sculptor Johann Sturmer . In 1725 and 1730 Thomasberger was jury of the sculptors' guild. After the death of his wife in 1733, he married Johanna Hückler six months later. A little later, Thomasberger died of dropsy at the age of 58 .

His eldest son, Johann Ignaz Thomasberger, was also a sculptor.

Thomasberger was a wood sculptor. As such, he made the wooden figures on the altars and the organ case of the Jesuit church Maria Schnee in Olomouc between 1720 and 1723.
