Augustin Pfleger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Augustin Pfleger (also Augustinus Pfleger , Augustinus Pflegerus ; * 1635 in Schlackenwerth ; † after July 23, 1686 there ) was a composer and conductor of Bohemian origins in the musical Baroque.

Live and act

Augustin Pfleger studied in Nuremberg with Johann Erasmus Kindermann , was Kapellmeister of Duke Julius Heinrich von Sachsen-Lauenburg around 1660 and from 1662 worked at the Fürstenhof Mecklenburg-Güstrow as Vice-Kapellmeister alongside Kapellmeister Daniel Daniélis . The history of the Güstrower Hofkapelle shows that he was hired again , which is why it is assumed that he already worked there in the 1650s. After Daniélis was released in 1664, Pfleger was appointed Kapellmeister and restructured the court orchestra. From his time in Güstrow there is a list of 89 sacred concerts with a small cast that he made himself. From 1665 he was Kapellmeister at the court of Christian Albrecht von Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf at Gottorf Castle . Pfleger was entrusted with the musical design of the ceremony for the inauguration of the University of Kiel in October 1665, for which he made compositions. In 1668 an opera was performed in Gottorf Castle for the first time under his direction. He left Gottorf in 1673 with an unknown destination. In some sources it is stated that Pfleger returned to Güstrow in 1681 to take over the position of Kapellmeister again after Daniéli's repeated and final departure. However, this is not certain, as nothing about it has been recorded in the history of the Güstrower Hofkapelle. He later returned to his home town of Schlackenwerth, where he died.
