Augustine Hunnäus

Augustinus Hunnäus (born July 29, 1521 in Mechelen , † September 10, 1577 or September 8, 1578 in Leuven ) was a theologian , philosopher and university professor .

Life

After attending school in Mechelen, Hunnäus studied theology at the University of Leuven and was awarded a Dr. theol. PhD . Hunnäus, who was already keen on languages ​​during his studies, then became a teacher of Greek and Hebrew at the Löwener Gymnasium castrense. He also taught philosophy there . He was canon of Saint Peter to Leuven and later became professor of theology at the University of Leuven.

Hunnäus is one of the syncretists of his time, whose work is based on Aristotle and Petrus Hispanus . In addition, he began to compare the manuscripts of the works of the church fathers in order to correct the biblical passages quoted there.
