Reservoir |
The Aumatalsperre (or "Auma Reservoir") is located near Weida in eastern Thuringia . It was built in 1936 for flood protection and energy generation and is now also used for leisure and recreation. In addition, service water is taken. Electricity is no longer generated today. The dammed body of water is the Auma . The dam is operated by the Thuringian long-distance water supply .
Building
The dam has a 220 m long earth dam made of gravel and clay with an internal concrete core and a 31 m long gravity dam, which serves as an overflow and flood relief . The dam wall consists of diabase rubble stone masonry . Both the wall and the dam are not straight, but slightly curved.
The first impoundment began in December 1935. From 1989 to 1990 the dam was emptied and sediments were removed.
leisure
There is a circular route around the dam for hiking. The campsite at the Aumatalsperre was the only campsite in Thuringia to receive the ADAC camping award several times . There is a boat rental at the reservoir. The dam is partly fishable and is managed by the Anglerverein Weida eV. The area is partly a nature reserve .
