Auraiya ( Hindi औरैया Auraiyā ; Urdu اوریہ) is a city in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh .

Auraiya lies in the north Indian plain 4.5 km north of the Yamuna . The city is the administrative seat of the district of the same name .

The national highway NH 2 ( Agra - Kanpur ) runs through Auraiya. The Uttar Pradesh trunk road 21 connects Auraiya with Jalaun and Kannauj .

As a city, Auraiya has the status of Nagar Palika Parishad . The city is divided into 25 wards . At the 2011 census, Auraiya had 87,736 inhabitants.
