The Río Geneshuaya as seen from Route 13 |
The Río Geneshuaya is a 365 km long right tributary of the Río Beni in northern Bolivia . It lies in the catchment area of the Amazon .
River course
The Río Geneshuaya rises in the humid savannah of the Moxos Plain in the northwest of the Beni department, almost 10 kilometers north of the village of Comunidad Australia . It flows through practically unpopulated rainforest to the north, parallel to Ruta 8 and flows into the Río Beni 65 kilometers southwest of Riberalta.
Due to the small height difference of only about 45 m over 134 kilometers as the crow flies between the source and its mouth, the Río Geneshuaya meanders strongly and changes its course and thus also its length constantly. Except for the last part, the river mainly runs through floodplain, which is particularly impassable in the rainy season. The only bridge over the Río Geneshuaya is part of Route 13 , which is the only road connection from the Pando Department to the rest of Bolivia. The largest town on the river is El Rosario with 248 inhabitants.
