Aurora is a city and seat of the county seat of Hamilton County in the US state of Nebraska .
history
Seven settlers had the goal of founding a new town in Hamilton County in 1871, which would become the county seat. The group split up, however, leaving two settlers, Robert Miller and Nathanial Thorpe. They founded the city in June 1871 on a prominent spot where two poplars stood out from the otherwise flat prairie. As early as the spring of 1872, the place consisted of 18 houses, including a school and a hotel. The most eventful year in Aurora's history was 1879: The Burlington & Missouri River Railroad connected the city to the rail network, telegraphy was now possible, and a postal service brought regular mail. In addition, the first newspaper "The Aurora Republican" appeared in the same year and the first bank opened. An agricultural association bought 40 acres of land southwest of town where stables and an amphitheater for 500 people were built (1889). As early as 1885, Aurora had 1,175 inhabitants. The Hamilton County Courthouse was completed in 1895 after the first smaller one was destroyed by fire. By 1909, three more banks were established, so that at times there were four banks in town at the same time.
