occupation

Played Out - Bearskin is a Portuguese-British film directed by married couple Ann Guedes and Eduardo Guedes from 1989.

action

17 year old Johnny Fortune has no money and no job. He makes his way as a player, together with the hard-nosed Kate, who is also not spoiled by life. As they flee from their creditors, they part ways, and Johnny joins the Silvas puppet theater and his silent companion Laura. The tragic comedy offers unexpected twists and turns in the tension between Silva's past, the needs of Johnny, and the women around her.

reception

“A game that is as dark as it is effective with the set pieces of 'film noir', whose sometimes erratic action is covered over by singer and actor Tom Waits with his presence. A parable about the futility of lifelong flight and a lesson about human wolf nature. "

The film premiered on November 5, 1989 in the United Kingdom (at the London Film Festival ) and on November 14, 1989 in Portugal (at the Cinemateca Portuguesa ).
