Bill Paterson (born June 3, 1945 in Glasgow ) is a British actor .

Life

Paterson studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama . He made his debut in a play at the Glasgow Citizens Theater in 1967 . From 1970 to 1972 he worked at Citizen's Theater for Youth as an actor and assistant director. He then worked for the 7:84 Theater Company . He played his first film role in the 1978 comedy The Odd Job .

The lead role in the play Schwekyk in the Second World War on display at the National Theater earned Paterson a nomination for the Laurence Olivier Award in 1982 . In the comedy Comfort and Joy (1984) he took the lead role. The lead role in the miniseries The Crow Road (1996) earned him the BAFTA Scotland Award in 1997 . In the comedy Rag Tale (2005) he appeared alongside Rupert Graves , Malcolm McDowell and Jennifer Jason Leigh . In the biopic Miss Potter (2006) he was seen in a larger role on the side of Renée Zellweger and Ewan McGregor .

From 2009 to 2010, Paterson was one of the main characters in Law & Order: UK . From the 5th season he only appears in a supporting role.

Paterson is married to the German set designer Hildegard Bechtler and has two children.
