It had its world premiere at the Berlinale 2008. Jesus loves you conveys what it means to be an evangelical missionary. It shows an excerpt from the global struggle between religious fundamentalism and secular enlightenment. The short TV version of 52 minutes is called The League of God and contains animated infographics that do not appear in the longer theatrical version.

action

In the summer of 2006, more than 20,000 Christian fundamentalists from all over the world will travel to Germany for the World Cup. It is not the passion for sport that they share with millions of football fans, but rather their mission is to bring Christianity back to Europe. One of them is Scott Rourk , a New York City evangelical pastor. With 250,000 US dollars he founded his own church, the creation of which was accompanied by the film Die Menschenfischer (2004) . Rourk travels to Berlin with Cody Mui, one of his new converts. There they meet with Tilman Pforr . He studied "Mission and Development Aid" at the University of the Nations and then developed a concept according to which he deployed missionaries all over Germany. Pforr receives the mission teams at Hurlach Castle and holds church services with them every day, after which donations are called for.

Gershom Sikaala , the missionary born and raised in Zambia, will also be accompanied . He makes it his business to go to the Muslim countries of Africa to convince them of a different, better religion. He finally came to Germany through the organization Youth with a Mission .

Reviews

“Free of chatter, he suggests parallels between faith and fantasy with purely visual means and cleverly sprinkles basic information as animated infographics that provide information about the ideology of evangelicals and their dissemination. In this way the dramaturgy and the atmosphere of the actual documentary narration remain untouched. "

"More rhetorically polished, less subjective and striving for a fair but clear attitude towards his protagonists," Jesus loves you - evangelicals on a World Cup mission ". In the enlightened tradition of the documentary and without polemics, the film shows the activities of fundamentalist Christians on the fringes of the German football summer. It's informative, fun and explosive. Entertainment can also have something to do with attitude. "
