The 2002 season was the second season of the Australian Ice Hockey League , the highest Australian ice hockey league . The Sydney Bears became champions for the first time in the club's history .

In the regular season, each of the six teams played a total of 15 games. The two best-placed teams qualified for the championship finals. Each team received two points for a win after regular time, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat after regular time.
