The 2005 season was the fifth season of the Australian Ice Hockey League , the highest Australian ice hockey league . Champions were the Newcastle North Stars for the second time in the club's history .

In the regular season, each of the eight teams played a total of 26 games. The four best-placed teams qualified for the playoffs in which the champions were played out. Each team received three points for a win after regular time, two points for a win after overtime, one point for a draw and a defeat after overtime and zero points for a defeat after normal time.
