history

After the sale and evacuation of the automobile museum by Fritz B. Busch, the museum was refurbished and reopened by Nicolas Flosbach on its premises between January 2017 and April 2017 . For this purpose, Flosbach rented two outbuildings of Wolfegg Castle with around 3000 m² of exhibition space from the Princely Family of Waldburg, Wolfegg and Waldsee.

Permanent exhibitions and collections

Automobiles

The museum's automobile exhibition consists mainly of loans. This enables the museum to exchange individual vehicles . The lenders are usually made up of private individuals with individual vehicles or entire collections.

The focus of the exhibition is on cars from the 1960s , 1970s and 1980s . The guiding principle of the exhibition concept is: “I had one like this too.” Thus, many vehicles are shown in the exhibition that were often to be found in everyday life.

From the holdings of Fritz B. Busch's former automobile museum, seven vehicles were taken over from the car section, which were already on loan in the old exhibition. Two more vehicles were sold by the lender shortly after the change of operator, including a Horch 853 from the first owner. A BMW 503 Coupe remained in the circle of friends of the museum and can now and then be seen at events in Wolfegg. A Benz & Cie from 1918 is currently the museum's oldest automobile exhibit.

Automotive engineering

The permanent exhibition of the Formula Student Team at the Weingarten University of Applied Sciences offers a glimpse into current and future automotive technology . The exhibition is designed, maintained and regularly updated by the student team members themselves.

Motorized two-wheelers

In addition to automobiles, around 40 motorcycles , mopeds , scooters and mopeds form a further focus of the museum, mostly also from the 1960s to 1980s. However, specimens from almost all decades from the 1910s can also be found here. A Triumph H from 1915 is currently the museum's oldest motorized vehicle.

Unicycle trailer

The museum presents a collection of 17 unicycle trailers , the world's largest exhibition of its kind.

The collection has been compiled by the owner Karlheinz Flach since the early 1980s and presented over many years as a “rolling unicycle trailer museum” at various trade fairs and as special exhibitions in museums and shopping malls. It remains on permanent display in the Wolfegg Auto Museum. In addition to the exhibits, the results of the research on this topic are also presented.

The museum is limited to pieces that were designed for use behind cars, trucks, buses and tanks. Unicycle trailers for two-wheelers are not part of the exhibition. Most of the unicycle trailers shown offer other uses in addition to the pure transport function. The exhibits include camping cabinets and tables, measuring trailers, wood gasifiers and a single piece of a folding sailing and motor boat.

everyday life

In addition to the vehicles, many contemporary everyday objects from all walks of life - living, working and traveling - are shown. Household appliances , old telephones , typewriters , cameras , fashion , gas pumps , furniture , film posters , etc. take you back to the time of the vehicles on display. The aim with this combination is to give the memories a certain time frame.

Local history

An exhibition with a focus on local history on the Wolfegg community was set up on the upper floor of Museum II . Here, fire department equipment shown the Wolfsegger firefighters from the 18th and 19th centuries. Furthermore, the history of the Ott department store , which ceased operations in June 2017 after 116 years, is discussed. Parts of the exhibition are dedicated to both this department store and the disused historic primary school building of the community.

Another area is the life and work of Fritz B. Busch . Large boards provide information about Busch's areas of activity and the whereabouts of his collection in the Auto & Tractor Museum . Some particularly well-known reports by Fritz B. Busch such as “Whiskey pure” or “Der Fall Busch” are available for visitors to read.

Special exhibitions

In addition to exchanging individual exhibits, the Wolfegg car museum regularly shows changing special exhibitions. It all started with the opening in April 2017 with a special exhibition on the subject of “80 Years of the Opel Kadett . From the convertible limousine of 1938 to the last series of the E-Kadett as a convertible, the exhibition showed the development of the series.

A special exhibition "Barn Finds" was shown over the winter of 2017/2018. For this purpose, vehicles were shown inside and outside the museum that combined the entire spectrum of State 5, including a Triumph 2000 , Mercedes-Benz 450 SE and a Daimler DS420 .

An exhibition Mercedes-Benz W 124 followed in summer 2018 , which was also devoted to the individual variants of the series. At the same time there was a second special exhibition “70 Years of Porsche” over the summer. The Porsche exhibition will remain with the museum permanently; however, there will be a regular change of exhibits.

From October 2018 to October 2019 an exhibition is dedicated to the VW bus generations T1 , T2 and T3 . From the T1 globetrotter to the T3 Doka self-made with double axle at the rear, different variants are shown.
