Autopsy - Mysterious Deaths is a documentary series produced by RTL II in cooperation with Blue Eyes since 2001 . It is based on the US television series Autopsy , which was broadcast by HBO from 1994 . The series will be broadcast (as of November 2016) on RTL 2 and since January 2017 on the pay-TV channel RTL Crime .

The series reports on mysterious criminal cases based on real events. Most of the cases presented are those that occurred in the United States or Canada . But there are also isolated cases of German criminalists. The series was initially commented on by the German actress, news anchor and voice actress Franziska Pigulla , currently Jörn Zimmermann is doing this job. The cases described are often told with an exciting story arc, whereby in most cases murders or kidnappings or rape with subsequent murder are discussed.

A very distinctive feature of the series is the inclusion of original material such as photos of victims and perpetrators or videos of the police. Another distinctive feature of the series is that the cases with the original investigators, or actors who look similar to them at the time of the crime, are re-enacted in such a way that the impression is created that the cameras are always there from the beginning of the investigation. Only a few cases are presented in the series that remain unsolved until the end. The cases are mostly incidents that take place before the major developments in forensics , with the perpetrator often being convicted or made to a confession with the help of objects on which there are traces of DNA that were not yet found at the time of the crime have been investigatable. There are only a few cases that are not cold cases . Some cases are also archived unsolved twice or more times before they can be resolved. Initially, the US profiler Dr. Michael Baden, later seen the profiler Dayle Hinman in several episodes.

  • Anne Marie Fahey was murdered in 1996. Thomas Capano was convicted.
  • Karla Homolka (ex-wife of Paul Bernardo aka Ken & Barbie Killer , Canadian serial killer)
  • Tim Masters (after 9 years in prison, unjustly convicted US citizen who was accused of the 1987 murder of Peggy Hettrick based on his drawings )

  • Herbert Baumeister , serial killer in the homosexual milieu, who is accused of up to 21 murders.
  • Scott Peterson, murdered his pregnant wife, Laci Denise Peterson
  • Timothy D. Buss, murdered nine-year-old Christopher Meyer
  • Robert Aeh, murdered his wife, Janet
  • Edmond Jay Marr killed Elaine Graham in 1983. It wasn't until 2005 that the case was resolved.

  • Norman Gerald Daniels killed the pregnant Carole Garton in Cottonwood and claimed to have done so on behalf of the secret organization "The Company". He was tricked.
  • William Edward Stevens killed his ex-wife Rufina Stevens with a piano string.
  • Sonny Grotten was murdered in December 1983, his wife Norma Small was the client.
  • Penny Parker was murdered by Don Jennings in May 1977. Before his arrest, 25 years later, he committed suicide.
  • Katherine Merry Devine was murdered in 1973, the perpetrator William Cosden Jr. was only convicted in March 2002.
  • Jeanette Cohen was beaten by her ex-boyfriend Anthony Roy Shivers and locked unconscious in a computer box. In it she died.
  • Maurice Tate killed 13-year-old Shannon Denise Capers because he became pregnant.
  • John Meier killed Susan Marie Schaaf. He is also suspected of killing his wife.
  • Madeline Carmichael and her son Gregory Carmichael killed their young daughter, Latanisha.

In July 2016, RTL II broadcast the spin-off Autopsy - Der Profiler with Axel Petermann as moderator from 10:15 p.m. to 11:10 p.m. Petermann also led the show as a case analyst for the German criminal cases .
