Avenger of Blood is an American thrash metal band from Las Vegas , Nevada that was formed in 2001.
history
The band was formed in April 2001 by guitarist and singer Matthew Black (aka Eric Greaney). The following year the first demo called Celestial War was released . In September, Shannon Frye, a suitable drummer joined the band. The band then relocated to San Francisco , California, where they met bassist Mike Soria, who briefly joined the band in November, but was soon replaced by Vince DiMaggio. Guitarist Jake Ottinger completed the line-up in January 2003. Another demo was recorded in September. The recordings took place in Trident Studios in Pacheco . Juan Urteaga from Vile was responsible for recording and mixing. Frye, Black and bassist Cesar Hernandez were represented in the studio.
After that, Black and Frye went back to Las Vegas, leaving the rest of the band behind. Nathan Fichter joined the line-up as the new guitarist and Shawn Loureiro as the new bassist. In this line-up they played at the first Minneapolis Mayhem Festival together with bands like Suffocation , Morbid Angel , Satyricon , Agent Steel , Heathen and Usurper . In April 2004 the band signed a contract with JCM Records and recorded the debut album Complete Annihilation . The recordings took place in the Maurotone Studios in Las Vegas in October 2004. The album was released in March 2005. In January 2005 guitarist Fichter left the band briefly, but returned shortly afterwards. In order to promote the album, there was an appearance at the Northwest Deathfest in Seattle in early April, which also featured Cannibal Corpse .
The second album Death Brigade followed in January 2008 on Heavy Artillery Records . In the same year guitarist Sal Lalli, as well as bassist and singer Chris Rodriguez joined the cast. On June 4, Lalli suffered a stroke while rehearsing , which had to cancel performances in San Diego , Tucson and Phoenix . Lalli never returned to the band.

The band plays classic Thrash Metal and is compared to other bands in the genre such as Slayer , Exodus , Dark Angel , Kreator and Sacrifice .
