The Avia B-135 was a Czechoslovak fighter aircraft from the time of the Second World War .

history

The forerunner of this type was the Avia B-35 developed by František Novotný , whose third prototype B-35.3 was named B-135.1. The visual change to the B-35 was the all-metal wing, the leading edges of which were no longer elliptical, but only slightly curved. The fuselage was kept shorter in contrast to the B-35.

The flight tests took place in 1940 (during the time of the German occupation ). In November 1939 Bulgarian test pilots had flown the predecessor B-35, in June 1940 they tested the B-135.1. With the approval of the German Reich Aviation Ministry , the Bulgarian Air Force then ordered twelve aircraft , which were completed by spring 1942 and flown into Avia from April 7, 1942 to October 6, 1942. By December 31, 1942, the machines had been dismantled, packed in wooden boxes and prepared for transport to Bulgaria. In February 1943 they took the train to Plovdiv and from there to Lovech in central Bulgaria to the DSF plant (Darschawna Samoletna Fabrika), where the final assembly of the B-135 took place by August 1943. A contract concluded at the same time for the license to build 50 more Avia B-135s as DAR-11 (ДАР-11 лястовица - Schwalbe) was never realized, as the Air Force canceled all contracts that had been concluded with foreign contractors in order to obtain the To be able to use the resources of the aircraft factories in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. In this specific case, that applied not only to the engines, but also to the cockpit instruments, the armament and a whole range of spare parts. In return, the Bulgarians were offered the delivery of the existing Dewoitine D.520 , later the Bf 109G , which was then also delivered.
