The Avia B-35 was a Czechoslovak fighter aircraft from the second half of the 1930s. A total of three copies existed.
history
The development work on this single - engine low - wing aircraft began formally on May 22, 1936 when the Czechoslovak Ministry of Defense placed an order for 2 prototypes (č.j.8329-II. / 36). Avia chief designer Ing. František Novotný took over the overall management of the project . The following year the dummy was finished and presented to the public at the Prague Air Show.
Due to the lack of availability of the originally planned Hispano-Suiza 12 Ycrs , the model received a Hispano-Suiza 12Ydrs manufactured under license from Avia. On September 28, 1938, the flight tests of the first prototype B-35.1 began , but it was interrupted on November 22, 1938 when the machine crashed near Hloubětín. The pilot, čet. Arnošt Kavalec, found death in the process. The second prototype, the B-35.2 , then received reduced ailerons and a slightly modified fuselage. Tests began on December 30, 1938. Both copies were provided with a fixed, faired main landing gear, as the retractable landing gear was not yet ready for series production. After the German Wehrmacht had invaded the ČSR, the development work continued and the third prototype B-35.3 was created , which, in contrast to its predecessors, received a Messier retractable landing gear and the armament intended for the series, consisting of a 20 mm Oerlikon cannon and two 7.92 mm machine guns. The first flight took place on June 20, 1939.
A series production of the B-35 did not take place, however, from the B-35.3 the further development of the Avia B-135 arose , which was built in small numbers and exported to Bulgaria .
