The Avia BH-25 was a Czechoslovak airliner from the second half of the 1920s.

history

The two aircraft designers Pavel Beneš and Miroslav Hajn employed by Avia began construction work based on a tender for a transport aircraft . The design provided for a single-engine double - decker in mixed construction. Contrary to their previous designs, the box-shaped fuselage of the model was completely clad in plywood, as was the front wing. The rear wing and all control surfaces were covered with fabric. As a typical Beneš / Hajn construction of the late 1920s, the lower wing had a slightly larger span than the upper one.

The passenger cabin could accommodate up to six people and was accessible via a narrow entrance door on the left. The two pilots sat separately in an open cockpit . The chassis was rigid and connected to an axle. There was a grinding spur at the stern .

The only prototype built was powered by an in - line engine Lorraine-Dietrich with 450 hp, built under license by Škoda . The first flight took place in July 1926. The flight tests resulted in some changes to the design. Thus, the received rudder arranged in front instead of the hitherto customary in Avia one-piece, movable control surface, an additional rigid tail fin. The wing tanks were moved from the undersides of the upper wing to the middle section. An air-cooled radial engine Bristol Jupiter  IV, built under license by Walter, was installed as drive .

The machine modified in this way went into small series. Six aircraft including the prototype, which was registered with the registration number L-BABA , were built, delivered to the ČLS and used on the international routes Prague – Berlin and Prague – Rotterdam. Six more were bought by Romania and flew there with the airline SNNA .

A total of twelve Avia BH-25s were produced.
