history
The seventh township in the 16th row in the Western Reserve was the first permanent resident in 1814, who was led by Wilbur Cahoon from Montgomery County in New York . The township was administered from Dover Township and was then part of Cuyahoga County. In 1818 the area was founded and first called Xeuma and later Troy. In 1824 Lorain County was established and the name was changed from Troy to Avon. In 1825 the place received a post office. Finally, the whole township was as City statuiert.

At the time of the 2000 United States Census, Avon was inhabited by 11,446 people. The population density was 211.8 people per km ². There were 4291 housing units at an average of 79.4 per km ². The Avon population was 97.02% white , 0.72% black or African American , 0.17% Native American , 1.03% Asian , 0.24% said they were racial , and 3.18% mentioned two or more races. 1.28% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latinos of any race.
