Awet Habte Ghebrezghiabher (born September 29, 1997 ) is an Eritrean athlete who competes in the long-distance runs .

Athletic career

Awet Habte first competed in national championships in 2014. At that time he was fifth over 800 meters. He has been racing in the long haul since 2016. In May he ran the season best over 5000 meters in Yokohama in 13: 24.40 min. Two months later he started over 5000 meters at the U20 World Championships in Bydgoszcz. In the final he ran a time of 13: 50.60 minutes and thus finished seventh. In October he took part in the ASICS Grand in Berlin and took second place in the 10-kilometer road race. In 2017 he started as part of the mixed relay at the World Cross Country Championships in Kampala. The Eritrean relay took ninth place. In June he ran a time of 13: 16.09 min in a competition in Carquefou, setting his personal best over 5000 meters. He managed to qualify for the World Championships in London. After a successful run-up, he crossed the finish line in the final with a time of 13: 58.68 minutes, making it 14th.

In 2018 Habte ran a time of 27: 48.35 minutes over 10,000 meters in Maia, Portugal, setting a new record. Over this distance he entered the African Championships in Asaba in August . He achieved a time of 29: 38.41 minutes, which meant sixth place at the finish. In 2019 Habte took part in the individual competition of the Cross Country World Championships in Aarhus and finished in 28th place. During the spring and summer he took part in a number of competitions in southern Europe before starting the 5000 and 10,000 meters at the Africa Games in Rabat in August . First he finished ninth over 10,000 meters in 28: 36.30 minutes. Three days later he was eleventh over half the distance. In October he finished ninth in 1: 03.11 hours at the Lisbon Marathon , where he ran over half the distance.
