Axel Barner

Axel Barner (* 1955 in Hanover ) is a German teacher, literary scholar and writer .

Life

Barner grew up in Rössing . After graduating from high school in Hildesheim , he studied German and history from 1976 to 1982 at the Technical University of Berlin (among others with Walter Höllerer, Norbert Miller, and Reinhard Rürup). Barner finished his studies in 1982 with the first state examination for teaching at grammar schools. In 1984 he passed his second state examination in Offenbach am Main . From 1985 to 1989 he was a teacher at the Cağaloğlu Anadolu Lisesi in Istanbul . Barner worked from 1992 to 1997 on behalf of the Academic Exchange Service as a lecturer for German at the Polytechnic University of Bucharest . From 2000 to 2008 he worked as a teacher at the Lycée International de Saint-Germain-en-Laye , where he initiated and co-designed international projects on Dadaism , the "Library of Burned Books - German writers in exile in Paris 1933-40" and the sonnet . From 2010 to 2014 he taught at the German Embassy School Addis Ababa in Ethiopia . Barner has lived in Berlin again since 2014.

Extensive travels led him a. A. to Central Asia ( Uzbekistan , Kyrgyzstan , Kazakhstan, Mongolia ), the Caucasus ( Georgia , Armenia ), Central America ( Mexico , Guatemala , Honduras ) and Africa . These journeys are repeatedly addressed by Barner in his books.

Barner writes literature and specialist books. In his literary publications in Germany and Romania, he primarily dealt with German-language literature from and about Romania. Barner is responsible for two anthologies with literary texts about Bucharest as the editor ("Bucharest - a literary portrait", dipa Verlag Frankfurt a. M. 1997 and "Europa erlesen - Bucharest", Wieser Verlag Klagenfurt 1999).

His literary work revolves around encounters with the foreign as well as intercultural experiences. Already in his first literary publications in magazines ("The Dogs of Bucharest" and "Bucharest Deadly Lament", 1997) these basic motives of his writing become visible. Also in the other works, the shorter ones of which were published in literary journals such as “Signum - Blätter für Literatur und Critique” and “Neue Sirene”, “... comes in the distant narrative style that allows as little as possible to be overwhelmed by the realities of other countries Barners does not directly express the strangeness, but rather is recognizable in mediating hints of surprise, disappointment or sarcasm. ”(M. Bauer, literaturkritik.de) These experiences are also expressed in the other works. Most recently published as contributions to the cultural history of the 15th century: “The Image of Ethiopia in the European Late Middle Ages” (2011) and “Stations of a civic life course - the III. Book of the Augsburger Chronik des Burkhard Zink “(2016).
