Axel Kallas
Axel Kallas (also Aksel Kallas , born June 3 . Jul / 15. June 1890 greg. In Rõuge ; † 3. April 1922 in Berlin ) was an Estonian theologian, poet and translator who has composed in German.
Life
Axel Kallas was born as the son of Rudolf Kallas , the older brother of the Estonian folklorist and diplomat Oskar Kallas , in southern Estonia and studied theology at the University of Tartu from 1910 to 1915 . He then worked as a pastor in Paistu , Jõhvi and Rõuge. In 1920 he became a member of the Estonian Parliament on the list of the Christian People's Party . However, he died less than a year and a half later in Berlin.
Literary work
Kalla's Estonian-language poetry is religious and patriotic and has not reached the relevant Estonian literary histories, but has largely fallen into oblivion. His anthology Estonian Sounds (1911), which was the first ever German anthology of translation on Estonian poetry , met with a greater response .
His avant-garde poems, which he published in German in Pärnu in 1920, are completely overlooked . Sometimes it is a satirical, mocking commentary on contemporary Estonian poetry, but there are also experimental onomatopoeic poems such as the following:
