Ayran is a former municipality ( Belediye ) in the Birecik district in the Turkish province of Şanlıurfa . After a regional reform, the place is downgraded to the district of Birecik. The place is located about 20 kilometers north of the district town Birecik and has existed since about the 18th century. Ayran has about 2400 inhabitants (2009), the majority of them Kurds .
Agriculture
Legumes , pistachios , pomegranates , apricots , grapes and other products are grown in the vicinity of the village .
Attractions
On the mountain towards Birecik is the grave of Sheikh Salih.
