Ayrancı is a city and a district in the Turkish province of Karaman . The city is located about 60 kilometers northeast of the provincial capital Karaman on the D-350 road from Karaman to Ereğli . The city of Ayrancı is located on the Koca Dere River, which is dammed south of the city to the Ayrancı Barajı reservoir. In the north is the Ereğli Plain (Ereğli Ovası) , in the south the Karaman Plateau (Karaman Platosu) and in the east the 1280 meter high Kozlu Dağı Mountain.
The village was founded in 1903 under the name Osmaniye to settle repatriates from the Crimea. The first Muhtar was Ceyhanlı Hasan Efendi. The name was changed to today's name in 1960. The name goes back to the legend of an "Ayran Dede".
The district created in 1987 is located in the east of the province. It borders on Konya Province to the north and east , Mersin Province to the south and the central district to the west . It consists only of the district town ( Merkez ) and 22 villages ( Köy ), of which the largest ( Kiraman ) has 709 inhabitants. The average population of the villages is 265.
