Ayumi Tanaka ( Japanese 田中 あ ゆ み , Tanaka Ayumi , born March 9, 1986 in Wakayama ) is a Japanese musician ( piano , composition ) of creative jazz .

Live and act

Tanaka received her first music lessons at the Yamaha Music School at the age of 3. As a pianist she gave several international concerts in Japan and Europe as part of her training. In 2000 she received first prize in the Yamaha Junior Electone competition . She has a Class 3 license on the Yamaha grading system. From 2009 she studied at the University of Wakayama in the Department of Education. In 2011 she moved to Oslo, where they at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Misha Alperin , Helge Lien and other Jormin Jazz Piano studied and Kristin Fossheim and Ellen Ugelvik classical piano and after the bachelor in 2017 graduated from the Master's program.

Tanaka founded her own Ayumi Tanaka Trio (with Christian Meaas Svendsen and Per Oddvar Johansen ), with whom she recorded the critically acclaimed album Memento (2016). With the trio Tanaka / Lindvall / Wallumrød (with Johan Lindvall and Christian Wallumrød ) she released the album 3 Pianos in 2016 , which received four stars in Down Beat . She has been a member of the quintet Nakama around Christian Meaas Svendsen since 2015 , with whom she recorded several albums. She can also be heard on Mongrel's album Thick As Thieves , on Thomas Strønen's album Lucus ( ECM 2018) and with the Japanese funk band BimBamBoom . She has performed with various ensembles in Scandinavia, Germany, India, Japan, Brazil and North America.

Tanaka also works as a music teacher. She was invited to teach workshops for children at the Oslo Jazz Festival 2013 and 2014, but also gave workshops at Barnas Jazzhus in Norway.
