Béatrice Edwige (born October 3, 1988 ) is a French handball player who belongs to the squad of the French national team.
Career
Béatrice Edwige came to France from French Guiana at the age of eleven . Here she played for HBC Celles-sur-Belle from 2004 to 2009. Then the cyclist moved to the first division club Cercle Dijon Bourgogne . When Dijon relegated in 2013, she remained loyal to the club despite the release clause. From summer 2014 she was under contract with OGC Nice . From the 2016/17 season Edwige played for the French first division team Metz Handball . With Metz, she won the French championship in 2017, 2018 and 2019 and the French cup in 2017 and 2019. In the summer of 2019 she moved to the Hungarian club Győri ETO KC .
Edwige made her international debut for the French national team on June 1, 2013 in a qualifier for the 2013 World Cup . Their first major tournament with the French selection was the 2015 World Cup . She won the silver medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . At the end of 2016, Edwige won the bronze medal at the 2016 European Championships . In addition, she was voted the best defender of the tournament. A year later Edwige won the world title in Germany . At the European Championships in 2018 , she won the gold medal in her own country.
Edwige was made a Knight of the Ordre national du Mérite in 2016 .
