Rudolf Leopold von Schlegel (born September 1, 1804 in Mühlhausen / Thuringia , † January 15, 1877 in Dresden ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Rudolf was a son of the Prussian lieutenant colonel Christian Friedrich von Schlegel and his wife Marie, née von Madai.

Military career

Schlegel visited the Berlin Cadet House and on April 17, 1822 was transferred to the 27th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a Second Lieutenant . After being assigned to the General War School , he served as a first lieutenant from 1838 to 1842 as a regimental adjutant. With his promotion to captain (officer) , he was appointed company commander on June 20, 1844 . Schlegel was briefly assigned to the Guard Jäger Battalion from October 1847 to March 1848 . After serving in the 25th Infantry Regiment , he was appointed Major Commander of the 1st Battalion in the 13th Landwehr Regiment in Münster on October 10, 1850 . After three years he was transferred to the 38th Infantry Regiment as battalion commander . Schlegel was promoted to lieutenant colonel there in mid-October 1856. Under position à la suite of the regiment, he was appointed commander of Minden on March 2, 1858 . On January 20, 1859 he was given command of the 28th Infantry Regiment and at the end of May 1859 was promoted to colonel . Under position à la suite, Schlegel was appointed commander of the 9th Infantry Brigade on January 29, 1863 and promoted to major general on March 17, 1863 .

During the war against Denmark in 1864 he was able to take the island of Fehmarn in a flash and capture the Danish occupation. For this, on December 7, 1864, he was awarded the swords for the Red Eagle Order II. Under the star ceremony for Red Eagle II. Schlegel died unmarried in Dresden in 1877.
