The Natura 2000 European protected area Böhmerwald-Mühltäler is an FFH area in the Rohrbach district in northern Upper Austria.

location

The European protected area includes most of the Austrian Bohemian Forest and the upper reaches of the Großer and Kleiner Mühl . The area is in the communities of Schwarzenberg am Böhmerwald , Klaffer am Hochficht , Ulrichsberg , Aigen im Mühlkreis , Schlägl , St. Oswald bei Haslach , Berg bei Rohrbach , Lichtenau im Mühlkreis , Haslach an der Mühl , Julbach , Peilstein im Mühlviertel , Oepping and Sarleinsbach as well as in the two Upper Austrian spatial units Böhmerwald and southern Bohemian Forest foothills .

The European reserve has a size of 9,350 ha and protects habitats as well as animal and plant species of pan-European interest. In the north and east the area borders on the national park and UNESCO biosphere reserve Šumava in South Bohemia and in the west on the nature reserve Hochwald am Dreisessel in Bavaria.

The legal basis for the area is the Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive of the European Union and a regulation of the Upper Austrian provincial government.

The area is also designated as an Important Bird Area Böhmerwald und Mühltal (AT032) with an area of ​​22,302 hectares, an implementation according to the European bird protection directive is pending .
