The six-storey , twelve-axis , eaves brick building was built in 1854 as a storage building for grain .

The facade is simple. The window openings are arched in segments. A frieze set off with yellow clinker bricks forms the upper end of the building.

The house is located in the core area of ​​the city ​​area recognized by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage site of the “ historic old towns of Stralsund and Wismar ”. It is entered in the list of architectural monuments in Stralsund with the number 122.

history

In 1899, the Stralsund merchant Carl Lange acquired the building as a transhipment point for sacks and tarpaulins that were produced in his company. Camping tents were built there during the GDR era. After three decades of vacancy, renovation work began in 2017 by a Stralsund building owner association. Doctors' offices, an operating theater and apartments are to be built in the old building. For this a complete gutting is carried out, the facade should be preserved. An 18-month construction period is targeted.
