The Büdel Islands ( English Büdel Islands ; in Chile Islas Aldea ) are a group of islands in the archipelago of the Biscoe Islands west of the Antarctic Peninsula . They are located off the east coast of Renaud Island , between Laktionov Island and Schule Island .
The exact position of the Büdel Islands was first recorded on an Argentine government map from 1957. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1959 after the German sea ice specialist Julius Büdel . The namesake of the name valid in Chile is Juan de Dios Aldea Fonseca (1853–1879), a protagonist of the naval battles of Iquique and Punta Gruesa .
