Schule Island ( English , Spanish Isla Schule ) is a small island in the Biscoe Islands group west of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located 6 km east of Laktionov Island off the east coast of Renaud Island .
Aerial photographs of the island were taken between 1956 and 1957 during the Falkland Islands and Dependencies Aerial Survey Expedition . First recorded, but still unnamed, it is on an Argentine government map from 1957. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1959 after the American oceanographer John J. Schule Jr., who in 1950 established the United States' sea ice service Hydrographic Office had organized.
