Julius Büdel
Julius Büdel (born August 8, 1903 in Molsheim , † August 28, 1983 in Würzburg ) was a German geographer with a focus on geomorphology .
He had a strong influence on geomorphological research in Germany, especially with his theses on the climatic genetic approach of relief analysis .

- 1928 doctorate in Vienna.
- 1951 Full Professor of Geography at the University of Würzburg .
- 1966/1967 rector of the University of Würzburg .
- 1974 initiator and from 1974 to 1978 chairman of the German Working Group for Geomorphology.
- In 1975 the Commission for Geomorphology of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences was set up at his request .

- In Antarctica, an archipelago off the Antarctic Peninsula , the Büdel Islands , and a mountain on the South Shetland Islands , the Büdelberg , are named after Julius Büdel.

- 1973: Alexander von Humboldt Medal from the Society for Geography in Berlin
- 1976 honorary member of the Geographical Society of Lübeck
- 1978 Weyprecht Medal from the German Society for Polar Research
- 1981: Victoria Medal from the Royal Geographical Society
- Member of the Academy of Sciences and Literature and the Austrian Academy of Sciences
