The Bülk lighthouse is located on the westernmost tip of the Kiel Fjord , in the area of the Strande municipality in Schleswig-Holstein . The Bülker lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse on the Kiel Fjord. It serves as an orientation light for the approach to the fjord. He marks the shallows of Stollergrund with a red warning sector . The lighthouse is a popular destination.

history

The lantern with the radar system installed in 2013.

The Danes built a pilot house and lighthouse on the Bülker Huk as early as 1807. In the tower there were six Argand lamps with concave mirrors as reflectors , which could not be put into operation until after the end of the war in 1815. A lightning strike destroyed the tower in 1843, and a 16 m high tower with a rotating lens fire was built as a replacement in 1844.

The construction of today's lighthouse was started by Danes in 1862, but could not be completed by Prussia until 1865 because of the German-Danish War . The tower was then white and had a red ribbon. A belt lens was located in the lantern as optics .

Shortly after it was put into operation, the Bülker lighthouse was no longer sufficient to secure sea traffic in the Kiel Fjord. In 1892, a lightship was therefore laid out at the entrance to the Kiel Fjord.

In 1910 the belt lamp was replaced by a four-field headlight optic. In the years to 1969, the lighthouse served as a leading light . From 1969 to 1970 the lighthouse was converted into an orientation light and a belt light was used again. The tower was clad with asbestos cement panels, received a black band and was dismantled by almost two meters.

Since this last reconstruction is not a beacon guards more concerned at Bülker lighthouse. Before that, three beacon keepers lived there who worked in shifts and lived with their families on site.

Since the beginning of 2013 a radar system has been installed above the lantern of the lighthouse, which has changed the appearance of the tower.
