The Bültsee (Danish: Bulsø ) is located between Schleswig and Eckernförde south of Kosel , on the Schnaaper Sander (named after the place Schnaap ) in the north of Schleswig-Holstein . It is a dead ice hole that was formed in the last glacial period ( Vistula Ice Age ).

The lake is considered oligotrophic (nutrient-poor) and is the location of plants that are only found in nutrient-poor waters, such as B. Water Lobelia , Bream , Strandling and Alternating Milfoil . The shores of the lake are breeding grounds for the little ringed plover .

The lake and its shore area have been under nature protection ( NSG Bültsee and the surrounding area ) since 1982 and is currently (as of 2019) grazed by Galloway of the Bunde Wischen eV association. What is intended is the

"... Preservation of a largely tree-free, nutrient-poor lake and its bank areas including the characteristic plants and animals that live here" "

- (§ 3 of the Nature Conservation Ordinance, see web link).

The lake is fed by groundwater and has neither inflow nor outflow.

There is a swimming area on the west bank (between Eckernförde and Fleckeby near the B 76 )
