Office building Heerstrasse 12–16

The office building Heerstraße 12–16 on Heerstraße in the Westend district of Berlin was designed by Paul Emmerich and Paul Baumgarten and built in two phases from 1938–1941. After completion, part of the building was occupied by Philipp Holzmann AG , the other by the Reich leadership of the Reich Youth Leadership . The building has been used by various Berlin authorities since the end of the Second World War . The entire building is a listed building .

Surrounding road network

The western part of the building on the north side of what was then Kaiserdamm 45/46 (today: Heerstraße 16) was occupied by the Berlin branch of the construction company Philipp Holzmann AG , which was both the client and the contractor. The foundation stone was laid on December 14, 1938, construction was completed in November 1939. The western part of the building was only separated from the eastern part by a fire wall . The Holzmann part survived the war relatively unscathed.

The eastern and larger part of the building (today: Heerstrasse 12-14) was built for the Reich Youth Leadership of the Hitler Youth (HJ) and moved into in January 1941. When Berlin was captured in April 1945, Volkssturm troops and Hitler Youth minors offered military resistance against the advance of the Red Army along Heerstrasse in the direction of the Reich Chancellery . Reich youth leader Arthur Axmann led parts of the Hitler Youth units from the headquarters of the Reich leadership. From there he was summoned several times to report to the Führerbunker . The wing to Bayernallee was largely destroyed and rebuilt and rebuilt in 1958.

In the former part of the Reichsjugendführung, the building section Heerstraße 12-14, the Citizens' Office Heerstraße 12/14 of the district office of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf is located today .

From mid-August 2016, shared accommodation for around 450 asylum seekers will be opened in the section of Heerstraße 16 . The citizens' office remains in place.
