Stefi Jersch-Wenzel

Stefi Jersch-Wenzel (born September 7, 1937 in Berlin ; † January 29, 2013 there ) was a German historian who primarily dealt with the history of the Jews in Germany . She worked for the Historical Commission in Berlin for a long time .

Life

Jersch-Wenzel studied history and received his doctorate in 1964 from the Technical University of Berlin with a thesis on Jews in municipal honorary offices: Jewish city councilors and city councilors in Berlin a. Wroclaw, as well as in Silesia and Poznan, before the introduction of the urban order in 1808 until the middle of the century .

She completed her habilitation - also at the Technical University of Berlin - in 1975 with a thesis on "Jews and French" in the economy of the Berlin-Brandenburg area at the time of mercantilism . Then from 1978 to 1995 she was head of the “Section for German-Jewish History” of the Historical Commission in Berlin. Between 1995 and 1998 she was the founding director of the Simon Dubnow Institute for Jewish History and Culture , an institute affiliated to Leipzig University . She held several academic and scientific offices, until 2007 she was about the deputy chairwoman of the Society for the Study of the History of the Jews (GEGJ).

Jersch-Wenzel found her final resting place in the Jerusalemsfriedhof III on Berlin's Mehringdamm (position: Dept. 341-U3-004).
