San Javier is a town in the lowlands of the Beni department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

San Javier is the central place of the Municipio San Javier in the province of Cercado . The village is located at an altitude of 155  m on the right bank of the Río Mamoré .

San Javier is located in the Bolivian part of the Amazon basin and is characterized by a year-round tropical hot and humid climate (see climate diagram Trinidad).

The annual average temperature is around 26 ° C, with the monthly average temperatures between June / July at 23 ° C and October / December at 28 ° C only slightly different. The annual precipitation is 2000 mm and is therefore more than twice as high as the precipitation in Central Europe. history

Father Agustín Zapata founded the village in 1691, at that time still on the western bank of the Río Mamoré. After a catastrophic flooding in 1771, the settlement was moved to the right bank in 1796, later to its present location. Even today, floods are a threat to the place.

San Javier is 25 kilometers by road north of Trinidad , the capital of the department.

The national road Ruta 9 runs through San Javier and crosses the entire Bolivian lowlands from north to south and leads from San Javier to the metropolis of Santa Cruz , 503 kilometers south . From San Javier to the south, Ruta 9 is paved, north of San Javier, Ruta 9 is an unpaved dirt and gravel road.

The Ruta 9 crosses the Ruta 3 south of San Javier in the provincial capital Trinidad , which connects Trinidad with La Paz , 602 kilometers away . There are daily bus connections to most cities in Bolivia via these two highways.
