The red grape variety Băbească Neagră is an autochthonous variety from Romania . It is grown in Romania , Moldova and Ukraine . The name Băbească Neagră means "black grandmother".

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

  • The shoot tip is open. It is not hairy and slightly shiny.
  • The large leaves are rounded, five-lobed and not cupped. The stem bay is U-shaped. The sheet is serrated.
  • The grape is large and fluffy. The round berries are small and almost black in color.

The gray- grape Babeasca Grise has mutated from the variety . It was discovered in Romania in 1975 by employees of the Odobeşti Institute .

Wine

The high-yielding variety with its large grapes produces fruity red wines that are primarily obtained in the area around Nicorești (Galați) in Romania.
