The steam locomotive series kkStB 60 was a freight train - Tender Locomotive series of kkStB .

Machine no. 72 of the kuk military railway Banjaluka – Dobrlin (kukMB)
54.14 in the Strasbourg Railway Museum (2017)

The kkStB only used triple and quadruple coupled locomotives without running axles for freight traffic, which only allowed low speeds due to the large front and rear overhangs. Karl Gölsdorf solved this problem by introducing a leading running axle in the 60 series and placing the standing tank above the rearmost driving axle. This made it necessary to raise the boiler, which gave the machines a modern look. Gölsdorf re-used essential parts of series 59 and 30 in detail  .

From 1895 to 1910, the kkStB included 297 wet steam models in its 60 series. All Austrian locomotive factories were involved in the delivery of the machines. In addition, were 1906-1908 22 copies with Clench -Dampftrockner (number 60,500) and 1908 three piece with Pielock provided superheater (60,800 range) in service.

The success of the 60 series prompted the Südbahn to procure 73 units of the 60 series wet steam version between 1900 and 1914. In 1915 the kuk military railway Banjaluka – Dobrlin (kukMB) received two locomotives No. 71–72, which largely corresponded to the 60 series.

The 60 series was made by all Austrian locomotive factories, the southern version also by the machine factory of the Hungarian State Railways . It was to be found in the entire area of the Danube monarchy and was also used for passenger and express train service.

After the First World War , representatives of the series came to the ČSD as series  334.1 (41 pieces), to the PKP as series  Ti12 , to the FS as  604 , to the railways of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes and later as  131 to the JDŽ as well as to the CFR , which did not assign them their own serial number. The locomotives of the kukMB became class 129 for the JDŽ. When Czechoslovakia ceded southern Slovakia to Hungary in 1939, locomotives of the class 334.1 came to the MÁV as  class 330.3 . 57 units of the kkStB machines and not a single one of the southern runway came to the BBÖ .

After Austria was annexed to the German Reich in 1938, the Reichsbahn only classified 30 units as 54,001–030. During the Second World War , the former 60s from the PKP and the JDŽ (Südbahn-60s) also came to the DR.

After the Second World War, the ÖBB still had 20 units as series  54 , which were retired by 1963. The last copy of the 54.14 was received by the Austrian Railway Museum , it is housed in the Strasbourg Railway Museum.
