The Civil Democratic Party (BDP) Glarus is a political party in the Swiss canton of Glarus . It is the Glarus cantonal section of the national BDP .

history

In the wake of ongoing wing fighting in the Swiss People's Party (SVP), several members of the SVP Glarus have resigned in recent years or, through critical statements, indicated that they no longer felt they were in good hands with their party. These were mainly supporters of the liberal wing of the party , which was committed to the tradition of the former Democratic Party .

After the processing of the events surrounding the Federal Council elections in 2007 had already resulted in a split in the SVP in the cantons of Graubünden and Bern , part of the Glarus SVP also said goodbye to the parent party in summer 2008 and founded the Glarus Civil Democratic Party . The founding members include eight district administrators and the government councilor Robert Marti , the only SVP representative in government.

On February 8, 2008, party president Martin Landolt was elected to the Swiss National Council in a replacement election, which means that the BDP has achieved parliamentary strength there.
