BFF was a three-member Austrian girl group . It was put together at the end of 2011 as part of the first Austrian season of the talent show Popstars .

history

Under the motto Mission Austria , the talent show Popstars took place in Austria for the first time in autumn 2011. The jury consisted of the choreographer Detlef Soost and the singer Fernanda Brandão .

After the end of a casting round, it was decided at the recall which of the 50 candidates would move into the band house in Biberwier . The jury decided on ten participants. Here the candidates were taught by the vocal coach Kate Hall and the dance trainer Anna Demel. In contrast to the seasons in other countries, the two bands Kilmokit and BFF were founded and temporarily occupied at the beginning of the band house phase . The band name BFF is the abbreviation of the English expression Best friends forever . The participants who did not join the band then appeared as so-called challengers and fought for a place in the band in vocal duels. The jury had eight exchange options for both bands.

On December 4, 2011, Kilmokit was voted the winner of the casting show by televoting.

The album Heartcore , published directly after the broadcast, reached number 58 in the Austrian charts, while the single Outta My Head was unable to make it into the Ö3 Austria Top 40 .

In March the fans could determine which song would be the second single. The choices were Flowers and Be A Soldier , the latter won the decision. Be A Soldier was then only released as a radio single. In May 2012, the single Never followed in collaboration with Guenta K. , which made it to number 73 in the Austrian singles charts. The single Turn Away , a collaboration with Kane and Miami Inc., released in November 2012, however, missed the chart entry.

In April 2013, the girl group announced its breakup on Facebook .

Members

The band consisted of three singers:

  • Julia Watzl already had casting experience before the show. In 2001 Watzl took part in the German version of Popstars, but did not get into the band Bro'Sis . Her mother comes from the Philippines, the father from Linz.
  • Rose Alaba is the daughter of the musician George Alaba and sister of the soccer player David Alaba . In addition to her singing career, she attends an acting school. Her mother comes from the Philippines, her father from Nigeria, she was born and raised in Vienna. So far she has released two solo singles: All of This Is You (as Rose May) and Love Me Right (as Rose May Alaba) With Love Me Right , she climbed to number 30 on the Austrian singles charts.
  • Catarina "Cati" Bieber first appeared on stage at the age of eight. In addition to singing, she is very active in the hobby of jumping. She comes from Seewiesen in Styria. In 2015, she applied to the German casting show Deutschland sucht den Superstar and made it into the recall.

All three band members previously applied to the Austrian casting show Heroes of Tomorrow and made it to the recall there.
