Babe clarke
Babe Clarke , actually Arthur Clarke or Arthur Clark , (* around 1930 in Alabama ) is an American jazz musician ( saxophones : alto, baritone, tenor; flute , clarinet ).
Clarke, nicknamed the youngest child of a family of musicians from Birmingham, Alabama , studied music at Fess Whatley School. He began his musical career in Chicago and New York, then played tenor saxophone with Johnny Hodges in the 1950s , and further recordings were made with Lawrence Brown and Benny Goodman during this time . In the 1960s he was a member of the studio orchestras of Oliver Nelson and Gary McFarland ; thereby participated in record sessions by Jimmy Smith , Etta Jones and Stan Getz , also with Jack McDuff , George Benson and Herbie Hancock ( Fat Albert Rotunda ). In the following decade he worked a. a. with Cannonball Adderley ( African Waltz ), Percy Mayfield , The Main Ingredient , Hermeto Pascoal , Gene Ammons , Bernard Purdie , Ella Fitzgerald , Lou Donaldson , Houston Person , Leon Thomas and Lena Horne . In 1980 he was inducted into the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame . In the field of jazz he was involved in 96 recording sessions between 1953 and 1990, most recently in the Frank Wess Orchestra.
His brothers are the jazz musicians Pete Clarke (woodwind instruments, 1911–1975) and Dick Clarke (trumpet).
