Baby Mine (German: Dear Child ) is a song written by Frank Churchill (composition) and Ned Washington (text) for the animated film Dumbo from 1941. It is sung in the soundtrack by Betty Noyes , while the animals in the circus slowly fall asleep and the little elephant Dumbo says goodbye to his elephant mom. The film received an Oscar in the category “Best Film Music” .

1942 was Baby Mine in the category "Best Song" for a Oscar nomination. However, the award went to Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II for their song The Last Time I Saw Paris from the film musical Lady Be Good .

Cover versions

In 1941 also took Les Brown ( Okeh 6500), Claude Thornhill . Glenn Miller and Bea Wain sang the song on Bette Midler , Baby Mine, in the 1988 film-drama Girlfriends as CC while helping Hillary ( Barbara Hershey ) give birth to her baby. Also Alison Krauss coverte the song, as well as Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys , who recorded the song in his program (Album In the Key of Disney ). The British musical singer Michael Crawford also interpreted Baby Mine ( The Disney Album ).

The song should not be confused with the song of the same name by Raymond A. Browne and Leo Friedman from 1901.
