Lady Be Good is a musical film from 1941. It was directed by Norman Z. McLeod , with Eleanor Powell , Ann Sothern , Robert Young and Lionel Barrymore in the leading roles .

The film took its name from the musical of the same name by George Gershwin , from which the title song Oh, Lady Be Good comes. Except for the title and the theme song, the film has little in common with the musical.

action

The young composer Eddie Crane writes successful songs with his wife Dixie Donegan. In their marriage, however, things are not going as expected. Dixie then gets divorced. Not only does she soon realize that she can't be without Eddie, he feels the same way. So they get married again and write more successful songs. However, when Eddie goes to South Africa, supposedly to collect inspiration for a symphony, Dixie wants to divorce again. This time, however, her lawyer strongly advises against initiating another divorce. After Eddie's return, they both realize that despite all the contradictions, they still love each other.

Movie review

“The completely new plot turns out to be extremely irrelevant, the musical interludes are interesting. The undisputed highlight is the 'Fascinating Rhythm' danced by Eleanor Powell, which Busby Berkeley was responsible for staging. The song ' The Last Time I Saw Paris ' won an Oscar , which caused a lot of controversy as it was not composed for the film and was previously released. "
