The VEB Bagger-, Bugsier- und Bergungsreederei Rostock (BBB) was a shipping company in the GDR that specialized in technical services for the maritime industry. The BBB's area of responsibility included piloting , sea towing and icebreaking services, as well as rescue and assistance in the event of an accident . In the sea ports of the GDR, the BBB was responsible for tank cleaning and bilge drainage . She carried out all dredging and flushing work for waterways engineering and coastal protection as well as laying submarine cables . Furthermore, diving work , special measurements and the compensation of compasses and radio feed belonged to the area of responsibility. In addition, the BBB supplied gravel from the Baltic Sea for the GDR construction industry.

The state-owned company was founded on January 1, 1970 from the VEB Deutsche Seebaggerei Rostock (DSB) and the VEB Lotsen-, Bugsier- und Bergungsdienst (LBB). From 1974 the VEB BBB belonged to the VEB Kombinat Seeverkehr und Hafenwirtschaft. Until 1990, the permanent staff included around 2500 employees. The technical fleet , consisting of sea tugs , icebreakers like the Stephan Jantzen , salvage ships , pilot boats , dredgers and motorized dump barges, comprised more than 130 ships.
The THA transformed in 1990 the VEB BBB into a GmbH to, which was sold to the Dutch Jan-Zwagermann group. In 1992 the GmbH, which at that time still had around 900 employees, went bankrupt . Zwagermann was sentenced to prison in 1994 for fraud. The tug and pilot relocation service was sold in 1993 to the Hamburg Fairplay Schleppdampfschiffs shipping company Richard Borchard GmbH . This continued the abbreviation BBB and the gear in the company logo of BBB Schlepp- und Hafendienste GmbH .
