Rob Groener (born September 19, 1945 in Glanerbrug ) is a Dutch former football player and coach.

Player career

society

Groener played for SC Herakles until 1972 . The defender played with the club from Almelo in the Eredivisie between 1962 and 1966 .

National team

Groener was a participant in the Summer Olympics . He led the Netherlands into the tournament as captain.

Coaching career

Groener worked as a fitness trainer at FC Twente Enschede from 1972 . He also worked as a sports teacher in Almelo and coached the Quick'20 Oldenzaal amateur club . In 1978 he received his coaching license and in the same year began to coach the Suriname national team. But Groener soon returned to Quick '20. In 1981 he took over from Hennie Hollink as coach at Twente Enschede. With twelfth place, the team took a disappointing rank. When the following season got off to a bad start, the football teacher was replaced by Antoine Kohn in November 1982 . For a short time Groener was again national coach and led the Netherlands Antilles . Later only managerial posts followed.

Career as a consultant

After his coaching career, Groener worked as a consultant. In doing so, he is in possession of the Official FIFA Players Agent license. His clients include the Austrian national player Marko Arnautović , the Greek national player Giorgos Samaras and the former German U-21 national player Peter Niemeyer as well as the coach Jan de Jonge .
