The Bagsvaerd Lake is a lake north of Copenhagen on the island of Zealand in Denmark . It was formed as part of the Mølleåen river system during the last ice age from meltwater and is now mainly used for water sports. The lake has an island called Gåseholm .

use

In the past, the lake was heavily polluted by the discharge of sewage and therefore not open for swimming. The water is very alkaline; in the 1950s the underwater vegetation had disappeared. Since there is hardly any water exchange due to inflows and outflows, the water quality improves only slowly, despite maintenance measures by local authorities.

The lake is used all year round by rowers , canoeists , sailors and anglers . Driving with motor boats and surfing is not permitted. In summer, the lake is a popular destination for the Copenhagen population. There are various hiking trails in the area.

There is also a regatta course for regattas in rowing and canoeing with six or nine lanes, on which top international regattas have already been held. The Danish Rowing Association operates a performance center for its national team on Bagsværd Lake.
